Privacy policy

Here we explain, with no small print, what data we process when you visit telarpublishing.com, write to us or follow us on social media, why we use it and how you can control it. In short: this website has no forms, uses no cookies and sells nothing; books are bought from Amazon.
1. Who is responsible
- Controller: Ricardo Andrés Guzmán Bacca, an individual publishing under the TelarPublishing imprint (an imprint of Telarlab).
- Tax ID: RUT (Colombia) 1018485784-3.
- Address: Calle 151 # 13A-50, 110131 Bogotá, Colombia.
- Contact for anything about your data: hola@telarpublishing.com
- Phone: +57 319 458 9466
- Representative in the European Union and the United Kingdom: not appointed for now, because we only process data occasionally (emails you send us) and without risk to you. If we appoint one, we will add their details here.
We are not required to have a data protection officer.
2. Summary
| What data? | Only what you give us if you write to us or talk to us on social media, plus technical visit data that does not identify you. |
|---|---|
| What for? | To reply to you, run our social media accounts and keep the website working and secure. |
| Legal basis | Your request and our legitimate interest in replying and keeping the website working. |
| Shared with? | The providers we need to operate (Cloudflare, Google). We do not sell or share your data with anyone for advertising. |
| Outside your country? | Yes: the controller is in Colombia and our providers are US companies. See section 6. |
| And Amazon? | If you buy a book, Amazon processes your data as the seller, not us (section 4). |
| Your rights | Access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability, and the right to complain to a data protection authority. |
3. What data we process, why, on what basis and for how long
| When | What data | What for | Legal basis | How long |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| You visit telarpublishing.com | Technical connection data your browser sends when requesting each page: IP address, browser, operating system, page visited and referring page. | Serving the website, protecting it from attacks and counting visits in aggregate (how many, from which countries, which pages). | Our legitimate interest in a working, secure website and in knowing how much it is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). | Cloudflare processes it only to provide the service; we only see aggregate figures that do not identify you. |
| You email hola@telarpublishing.com | Your email address, your name if you give it and whatever you tell us. | Replying to you. | Your request and our legitimate interest in replying to people who write to us (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). | For as long as the conversation lasts and at most 2 years from the last message. |
| You follow, comment on or message our social media accounts (Instagram, including Mochi's account, and Facebook or Pinterest once we open pages there) | Your username, your comment or message and whatever the platform shows us from your profile. | Replying to you and running our accounts. | Our legitimate interest in running our social media (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). | As set by each platform: we do not copy that data outside it. |
Do you have to give us your data? No. You can browse the website and buy our books on Amazon without telling us anything. We only need your email if you write to us, so we can reply.
Mailing list. We do not have a mailing list or newsletter yet. If we start one, we will ask for your explicit permission to email you and update this policy before collecting any address.
Sensitive data. We do not ask for it or need it. Please don't send us health data or data about other people.
Automated decisions. We make no automated decisions about you and do no profiling.
4. Purchases on Amazon
Our books are sold by Amazon. Your purchase data (name, shipping address, payment, order history) is processed by Amazon as controller, under its own privacy notice. Amazon does not give us the details of people who buy our books: it only tells us how many are sold and in which store. More in the legal notice.
5. Who we share your data with
Only the providers we need to operate:
| Provider | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare, Inc. | Website hosting and security, cookieless visit statistics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) and forwarding of email sent to hola@telarpublishing.com. Processes data on our behalf, under contract. | Global network; US company. |
| Google LLC (Gmail) | The mailbox where your emails arrive. It is a consumer Gmail account: Google processes that data under its own terms, not as our processor. | USA and other countries. |
| Meta Platforms (Instagram, Facebook) and Pinterest | Only if you follow, comment on or message us there. They process your data as controllers, under their own policies. Once we have a Facebook page, Meta and we will be joint controllers of that page's statistics, under Meta's Page Insights addendum. | USA and Ireland. |
We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers. We use no advertising or tracking tools on this website.
6. International transfers
- Colombia: the controller is in Colombia. When you email us, you give your data directly to us; according to the European Data Protection Board, that is not an international transfer, but the GDPR still applies to how we process it.
- United States: Cloudflare and Google are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (and its UK Extension), which the European Commission considers adequate; Cloudflare's data processing agreement also includes standard contractual clauses.
7. Children
Some of our books are for children, but this website and our social media are aimed at the adults who buy them. We do not ask for or knowingly collect personal data from children. If you are under 14 (or under 13 in the United States), please don't write to us without your parent's or guardian's permission. If we find out that a child has written to us, we will delete their data; if you are a parent or guardian and think your child has written to us, let us know at hola@telarpublishing.com or on +57 319 458 9466 and you can review or ask us to delete whatever they told us.
When anyone visits the website, including the Mochi section, the only data processed about a child, as about any visitor, is the IP address and technical connection data, used solely for the website's internal operations: delivering the pages, protecting them from attacks and counting visits in aggregate. It is not used to contact anyone, for advertising or to build profiles: we use no advertising or tracking tools and only see aggregate figures.
8. Your rights
You can access your data, rectify it, erase it, object to its processing, ask us to restrict it and ask for its portability. Write to hola@telarpublishing.com from the address you used to contact us. We will reply within one month; if the request is complex or there are many, this may be extended by two further months, and we will tell you within the first month.
If you think we have not handled your request properly, you can complain to the data protection authority in your country: in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es); elsewhere in the EU, the authority where you live or work; in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). If you are in the United Kingdom, you can also complain to us about how we handle your data by writing to hola@telarpublishing.com: we will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and tell you what we have done.
9. If you are in Colombia
For data subjects in Colombia, this policy is also our information processing policy under Law 1581 of 2012 and Decree 1074 of 2015. See the Spanish version, section 9, for the full text, which is the valid one. Phone: +57 319 458 9466.
10. If you are in Mexico
This section is our privacy notice. See the Spanish version, section 10. You can exercise your ARCO rights (access, rectification, cancellation and objection) by writing to hola@telarpublishing.com; we will reply within 20 days and, where appropriate, act on it within the following 15 days.
11. If you are in the United States
We do not sell or share personal data, we do no targeted advertising and we do not use your data to build profiles. If you live in a state with its own privacy law (for example, California), you can ask us for access to or deletion of your data at hola@telarpublishing.com, and we will not treat you differently for doing so. On children under 13, see section 7.
12. Security
The website runs over a secure connection (HTTPS) and stores no visitor data: it is a static website with no database. Only the controller has access to the accounts we use (Cloudflare, email and social media).
13. Changes
If we change this policy, we will say so here with the date. If the change is important and we have your email, we will let you know.
